Fancy Hill Cabins and RV Park: A Secluded Mountain Retreat in Arkansas' Ouachita National Forest

Nestled in the rugged beauty of the Ouachita Mountains lies Fancy Hill Cabins and RV Park, a charming glamping retreat that offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Established in 2021 by Renea and Jon, this family-owned and operated glampsite is located in the Ouachita National Forest, surrounded by pristine wilderness and close to many natural attractions.

A Family's Connection to the Land

Renea's family history in this region stretches back generations. Her great-grandfather, Phillip N Cogburn, was granted homestead land here during the Homestead Act of 1862. To this day, her family still privately owns some of that original homestead property.

Growing up, Renea spent her childhood immersed in the tranquility of country living. Her family operated a circular saw sawmill in the area since 1975, using trees harvested from their own land to manufacture lumber. This strong familial bond to the mountains inspired Renea and Jon to create a place where others could experience the magic of this special corner of Arkansas.

Rustic, Cozy Cabins in the Woods

The couple named their glampsite Fancy Hill Cabins and RV Park as a nod to a nearby mountain and the local town of Fancy Hill. They set up shop on 23 wooded acres bisected by a flowing creek. Guests can choose from a variety of outdoor lodging options:

Lil' Rustic Retreat Cabin at Jack Creek

This charming open-concept cabin with a full-length front porch sleeps up to 4 guests and this cozy cabin offers a unique dining table feature surrounding a beautifully cut tree from the same lot. The cabin sits right on Jack Creek, with the soothing sounds of the rushing water just outside your window.

RV/Tent Sites

Fancy Hill offers both 50 AMP hook-up and primitive camping sites by the creek or river. Tent campers can pitch their own tents or glamp in ready-to-go tents provided by the glampsite.

Coming Soon: The Whitetail Cabin at Crystal Ridge

A 2nd, larger cabin currently under construction will accommodate families and larger groups. This cabin will feature a complete wrap around porch, an outdoor kitchen, separate bedroom, and outdoor sleeping areas all nestled on top of a stunning ridge with sweeping forested views.

Renea and Jon handcraft each cozy cabin onsite using lumber milled from trees harvested right on their land. They infuse the decor with nostalgic touches reminiscent of a simpler time.

Guests particularly rave about the peaceful atmosphere. With no TVs in the cabins, families are encouraged to unplug from technology and spend quality time together playing board games, reading books, or simply relaxing.

Gateway to Arkansas' Natural Wonders

Fancy Hill lies within easy driving distance of many popular attractions:

Ouachita National Forest

Over 1.8 million acres of pristine wilderness with scenic drives, hiking trails, crystal-clear streams, and abundant wildlife watching opportunities.

Little Missouri Falls

A spectacular 15-foot cascading rock waterfall pouring into a swimming hole, perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot day.

Albert Pike Recreation Area

Named after the founder of Arkansas' first national park, this area offers hiking, swimming, fishing and paddling along the Little Missouri River..

Crater of Diamonds State Park

Fancy Hill General Store

Renea’s family owns the little quaint general store just down the road from the park and the store provides supplies, snacks, and souvenirs for guests.

A Truly Personalized Glamping Experience

Renea and Jon make it a priority to personally connect with each guest. Every stay starts with a warm welcome card addressed to the guests by name. The cabins feature thoughtful touches like snacks, games, and decoration for special occasions.

Small details make a big difference in making guests feel special. As Renea says, "We do our best to get on a personal level with each of our guests because everyone is different."

Growing a Unique Glamping Operation

As a newly established glampsite, Renea and Jon have exciting plans for Fancy Hill's future expansion. Their shared passion for hospitality and Renea's banking/finance background combined with Jon's construction know-how make them a strong team.

They envision adding more custom-built cabins and improving the RV facilities over time. Each new accommodation will have its own unique theme and amenities. The couple wants to ensure every aspect of the glampsite reflects quality over quantity.

Renea and Jon also hope to offer fun events, activities and collaborations to bring the local community together as Fancy Hill continues to grow.

Words of Wisdom for Aspiring Glamping Entrepreneurs

For those dreaming of starting their own glamping business, Renea offers this advice:

"Hold true to your values, stay motivated, and don’t give up - it always has a way of working itself out. Don’t let others' negativity stop you or you will never start, this is your life, your dream not theirs."

She emphasizes the importance of maintaining balance and taking time for yourself, "No one can grind day in and day out, take time out to enjoy your life with each other as we only have this one."

Renea sees a bright future for the glamping industry as travelers increasingly seek meaningful experiences that allow them to connect with nature, loved ones, and themselves. She sums it up perfectly:

"I think everyone is looking for an experience now instead of just a place to sleep. They want that history, the journey, something to connect too along with a retreat."

Fancy Hill Cabins and RV Park promises just such an experience - a peaceful mountain retreat brimming with charm, personalized service, and access to Arkansas' magnificent outdoors.
